About Us - The Road Less TravelledTravelaire's story begins in 1963 in Edmonton, Alberta and has grown consistently into one of Canada's largest manufacturer of recreation vehicles. We now manufacture Travel Trailers, 5th Wheels and Motorhomes under five main brand names: Travelaire, Genesis, Rustler, Roughneck and Aerolite. Over the years, we've grown and adapted many times, but our focus has always been the same. Getting you onto the scenic route in the best RV possible. Whether the route is a winding mountain road, or that long freeway that leads south for the winter... well, that choice is up to you. Our HistoryThe original factory was in a 5000 sq. ft. rental facility in Edmonton. Travelaire produced 85, 16' units that first year, selling a large percentage of the first year's production to Edmonton residents. Travelaire's quality product met ready acceptance in the market and by 1966, production had risen to 450 units yearly and the small Edmonton factory was no longer able to meet consumer demand. Growth & ChangeIn 1966, the company moved south to the city of Red Deer, where a new 20,000 sq. ft. building was erected, which in following years was continually expanded to 88,000 sq. ft. to meet market demand. In 1969, the Travelaire Company was sold to Neonex International of Vancouver, who operated the company until 1974, when its original owners repurchased it. In 1978, the company established itself in Eastern Canada, when a second factory was opened in Strathroy, Ontario to produce Travelaire products for the eastern market. In August 1988, Firan Corporation of Oakville, Ontario, purchased Travelaire. As Firan also owned Glendale Recreation Vehicles, Travelaire's eastern factory was then amalgamated into the Glendale facility. The purchase made Travelaire Red Deer part of Canada's largest manufacturer of recreation vehicles. Over 100 dealers, spanning all Canadian provinces, the Yukon, N.W.T. and Alaska serve the Corporation and its many customers. In 1999, Firan Corporation changed their corporate name to Glendale International Corp. The year 1999 saw Travelaire Red Deer add 10,000-sq. ft. to their production facility to keep up with the further increased demand. Today and down the roadWith so many years of experience in the building of over 60,000 quality recreational vehicles, most of which are still servicing their owners, all of us at Travelaire, are committed to the long term future of the recreational vehicle industry and to our loyal customers. |
